چکیده

We focus on a powerful aspect of chiral perturbation theory (χPT) which provides us with a “bridge” over different reactions. For this purpose, we study a contact operator which contributes p-wave π-production and several weak processes. We fix the unknown coupling of the contact operator using a matrix element of a low-energy weak process (pp → deνe), and then calculate the partial wave amplitude (a0) for the p-wave π-production (pp → pnπ). We find that the chiral operator including the contact term does not reproduce a0 extracted from data, showing that the bridging over reactions with significantly different kinematics is not necessarily successful. We argue the importance of a specific higher order calculation. In order to gain an insight into a higher order calculation, we consider a higher order counter term, and find that the energy dependence of a0 is then consistent with the data.

Kaon-nucleon couplings for weak decays of hypernuclei.

We investigate the weak kaon-nucleon (NNK) S-wave and P-wave interactions using heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The leading 1-loop SU(3) breaking contributions to the ppK, pnK, and nnK couplings are computed. We nd that they suppress all NNK amplitudes by 30% to 50%. The ratio of neutron-induced to proton-induced hypernuclear decay widths is sensitive to such reductions. It has been ar...

Chiral corrections to the Kroll–Ruderman theorem

We calculate the one–loop corrections to the Kroll–Ruderman low–energy theorems for charged pion photoproduction in the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We predict the threshold S–wave multipole E0+ to be E thr 0+ (γp → π+n) = (28.2 ± 0.6) · 10/Mπ and Ethr 0+ (γn → π−p) = (−32.7 ± 0.6) · 10/Mπ, respectively, for a fixed pion–nucleon coupling constant, gπN = 13.4. A comparis...

Chiral Symmetry in Nuclei

The impact of chiral symmetry on nuclear physics is discussed in the context of recent advances in the few-nucleon systems and of dimensional power counting. The tractability of few-nucleon calculations, illustrated by very recent solutions for A = 2 − 6, is shown to follow from power counting based on chiral Lagrangians. The latter predicts the suppression of N -body forces, as originally show...

Near-threshold pion production in diproton reactions with polarised beams and target at ANKE-COSY

An extensive experimental study of near-threshold pion production in diproton reactions is underway at the ANKE-COSY spectrometer (Jülich). The programme is aimed at isolating the four-nucleon-pion contact interaction term appearing in the χPT expansions of these processes. This will establish links between pion production and other low energy phenomena within the χPT approach. The first step i...

Parity - Violating Pion - Nucleon Coupling h ( 1 ) πNN from π + - Electroproton Production Near the Threshold

We study the possibility of measuring parity-violating pion-nucleon coupling h (1) πNN from π+-electroproton production in the threshold region. We calculate the electronhelicity asymmetry in terms of h (1) πNN and the Z-boson exchange between the electron and proton in leading-order heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory. From the result, we demonstrate that the coupling can be determined to ...
